Kauai-born surfer, lifeguard, and actor Tamayo Perry has died after being attacked by a shark while surfing in Hawaii. The 49-year-old died on Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2024.

Perry was an eight-year veteran of Honolulu Ocean Safety and was well-known in the North Shore waterman community. He also appeared in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi released a statement expressing his condolences to Perry's family and friends. "Tamayo Perry was a beloved member of our community and a true waterman," Blangiardi said. "He will be deeply missed."

The investigation into Perry's death is ongoing.
